Students who are of a different political affiliation than their professor may feel ostracized and suffer educationally as a result. These students may feel as if they cannot actively participate or give their best work because the professor will object. Many feel as if they need to write to the professor's affiliation for fear of persecution and downgrading. This intern limits a student's freedom of speech, which is not only unethical, but illegal.

For the most part, professors have absolute control over their classroom and what is being taught in it. Therefore, they can teach however they want, sometimes using extreme political agendas. Many instructors take full advantage of the classroom to, in a way, recruit students to their political party

Sometimes political issues cannot and should not be overlooked while reading essays or novels for class. Oftentimes, teachers only present one side of the story, their own. Students need to be presented both sides of an argument in order to make their own decisions. When students are presented only one side of the debate, then they are being deprived of valuable knowledge and not given the opportunity to think critically.

A fantastic way for students to become better writers is by allowing them to write on topics they are interested in. This motivates students to freely explore by challenging themselves and critically thinking on matters important to them. When a composition teacher assigns students to write on political matters, unless they are interested in politics, then they become disengaged from the exploration process.
